Microbit Beginner's course for year 5&6
This course aims to provide teachers with technical and content knowledge to teach the Digital Technologies curriculum to Years 5 & 6. It provides an introduction into basic coding concepts using the BBC micro:bit and Microsoft MakeCode as the platform.
Included in this course is an introduction into micro:bit classroom where you can learn how to teach Digital Technologies through an online learning management system. This is appropriate for face-to-face and remote learning. There is no requirement to have a physical micro:bit. If you do have access to one you can take the projects and make them a physical reality.
Activities designed for the classroom
Throughout the course you will be given activities to complete. These activities are ready to be taken straight into the classroom and have been mapped to the Australian Curriculum. Along side the activities are teaching considerations. These are intended to support the implementation of the activities through the teaching of broader concepts and other required understandings.
Depending on the implementation strategy, it is suggested that the activities covered in this course would cover content for one term.
This course is separated into 5 modules. Each module focuses on one activity. The modules include the information you need to complete the activities as well as strategies and resources for classroom implementation.
In this module you will create your own customised name badge.
You will learn about loops and be introduced to the hardware and software involved in this course.
